is only as good as the people who live and work in it.”
How do you respond to an increasing number of complex priorities and growing volume of information?
There is a fine line between rising to the challenge and becoming overwhelmed. Challenge can improve performance but there is a point of maximum efficiency. As the amount of work or challenge increases, our ability to perform at our best can be compromised. We can find ourselves working longer and harder just to keep up, draining more energy.
People often stop noticing when their performance has deteriorated due to the fact that they have been running on empty for so long, it has begun to feel normal and is hard to remember what it was like not to be stressed.
Looking at the graph, where the curve peaks will vary for different people depending on their resilience. Those with more resilience can perform at higher levels for longer periods. However, we can all succumb to exhaustion and illness if the challenge lasts long enough. If we haven’t learned how to transform stress, we are going to find ourselves on the down-slope.
For companies, this can have a big financial impact through mistakes and errors of judgement, attrition and sick leave. Furthermore, Harvard Business School has found that employee attitudes are what drive financial results in business, not the other way round.
I work with a range of companies – small to medium enterprises through to global, blue-chip organisations – to enable people to reduce stress, build resilience and achieve high performance on demand using a unique system of techniques, tools and leading-edge feedback technologies called HeartMath™. HeartMath is based on the science of our brain and heart. The techniques are simple to learn, practical to do and very effective. The techniques:
Transform your response to stress and quickly rebalance your mind, body and emotions
Increase your ability to think more clearly, be more intuitive and make better decisions, especially under pressure
Improve health, increase resilience and well-being; maintain personal balance
Decrease stress and burnout in chaotic and changing environments
Maximise creativity and innovation
Boost performance and overall intelligence
The techniques are supported by award-winning biofeedback technology that shows the physiological response of the body to different emotional states, by measuring Heart Rate Variability (HRV). This HRV biofeedback allows you to match your felt sense to the output onscreen, making the techniques very easy to learn. Cloud technology can track and monitor progress over time and against goals.
As a working parent, having spent nearly 20 years in financial services, I fully understand the pressures of working in a high-tech, high-pressure environment where you seem to be accessible 24/7. I collaborate with Doctors at the Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre to combine my business experience with their medical expertise, to deliver the most credible and effective training.
