What is CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy | Freedom in Health, BuckinghamshireCranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle, yet effective, therapy where the practitioner listens to your body through their hands (called palpation) to look for underlying patterns of injury, stress or imbalance.

In every living thing there are underlying rhythms that are present and can be detected by trained hands. These rhythms can be felt at a body/tissue level, at a fluid level (particularly through the cranial fluid surrounding the brain and spinal column) and at an energetic level. These rhythms indicate where the body is in balance and a state of health, or indicate where there are restrictions in the body due to physical or emotional events.

When subject to physical injuries or emotional stresses, the body’s tissues contract. These contractions and patterns can be stored in the body for many years and inhibit the functioning of the body, giving rise to health and emotional issues.

How can CranioSacral Therapy help me?

Our bodies are truly amazing. They are always seeking to dissipate stuck patterns to return us back to perfect health. The therapist is able to feel the subtle motions that indicate when there is block or restriction held within the body and, by holding the right space to allow for healing to occur, they provide an opportunity for the body to let go of the restriction and return itself to health.

When the fluid and energetic tidal body rhythms can be accessed, often a real shift occurs, allowing for long-term changes to body functioning and good health. These tidal body rhythms contain the blueprint for perfect health that is in every one of us. By accessing that blueprint, a holistic shift takes place and natural healing can occur.

When the body’s tensions are released, the energy that was being used to hold the body in the restrictive pattern becomes free to improve your overall energy level.

CST is effective on a large range of symptoms, including physical pain, psycho-emotional upset and trauma, nervous system dysfunction, muscular or skeletal issues and trauma from birth. Because it is an extremely gentle, whole-body therapy, it is suitable for babies to the elderly, as there is no manipulation involved on the part of the therapist.

Only your body understands the experiences, environment, conditioning and emotions that have brought you to where you are right now and, therefore, only your own body has the innate wisdom to know exactly what it is that you need. Thus, the whole session is client-led and is always at a pace that can be perfectly integrated. For this reason, the issue that you came to address may not be the issue that is resolved first. However, what occurs will be exactly what your body needs at that time and the changes will be beneficial. I would recommend that you may want to consider having a series of treatments to gain the full, cumulative effect of the therapy.

“I have seen Julia for CranioSacral Therapy in relation to jaw pain (TMJ) that I had been experiencing for over a year.  I had been taking magnesium and having deep therapeutic massage to try and release the tension and relieve the pain, and those things had helped a little, but the pain kept recurring after a period of slight relief.  I really was at the point where I thought I would have this for the rest of my life.

After my first session with Julia, I had my first experience in over a year of a “free” jaw.  Although the tension came back, it was definitely a great improvement.  I saw her again a fortnight later, and then a week after that, and each time I experienced more of that “free jaw” feeling that I used to take for granted.  I am now at the point where I haven’t had a session for over a month and my jaw is feeling almost normal – there is no pain and only some residual tension that comes and goes.

I have seen many CranioSacral therapists and Cranial Osteopaths over the years for various reasons, and I have never had such profound results as I have had with Julia (and paid significantly higher rates for one of them to treat my TMJ with much less impressive results).
Not only is Julia an obviously talented therapist, she has a lovely calming manner and explained what she was doing and how my body was reacting to the treatment all the way through.  I think I have found “my” CranioSacral therapist for life!  A very big thank you to you, Julia, you have made a huge difference in my life.”
